CeRam-Kote Marine Applications
Sea Express | Motor Lifeboat Grumman | Albatross Flying Boat | Catalina Flying Boat Marine Hull
Land Jet Water Intake Tubes | Self Propelled Barge | Navigation Pylons
Problem:
The Western Australia (WA) Department of Transport replaces many tubular navigation pylons each year in rivers and coastal harbors due to corrosion and damage from vessel impact and owners mooring off the light tubular poles.
The typically used coating was an ultra high build epoxy which was easily dislodged by abrasion and impact, resulting in corrosion above and below the water line.
Solution:
CeRam-Kote 54® was applied to six pylons at a test site. The pylons are located within the Hilarys Marina Complex in Perth so they could be easily monitored. The site was chosen for the large number of vessel movements and the likelihood of impact and abrasion to the coating.
Result:
After 8 months of service, the marina manager reported that “the coating is doing what you said it would.” There has been no corrosion even though small boats have run into the pylons.
The WA Department of Transport has specified CeRam-Kote 54® for 15 new marine pilings for new floating jetty sections. Fusion bond epoxies are unable to withstand the abrasion and rubbing from the polyurethane guide rollers that allow the jetty to float up and down the pilings. CeRam-Kote 54® is expected to solve the abrasion problem.
